How We Assess and Treat Occipital Nerve Pain

1

Review the accident and symptoms

We discuss the collision, pain onset, pain route, scalp tenderness, neck symptoms, and prior care.

2

Check nerve and neck findings

We assess the tender scalp, pain pattern, neck movement, and related neurological signs during the evaluation.

3

Connect findings to the plan

We explain whether the findings support occipital nerve care, another injury evaluation, or further review.

4

Discuss targeted treatment

We may discuss an occipital nerve block or another interventional procedure when the assessment supports it.

5

Document the care provided

We record the findings, treatment plan, and follow-up needs through the coordinated practice.

What Patients Should Confirm Before Occipital Neuralgia Care

Match the pain pattern

Pain that travels from the upper neck toward the scalp may fit occipital nerve irritation. Customers should describe the route, triggers, and tender spots so we can assess the pattern.

Review the proposed procedure

An occipital nerve block is a targeted injection near the affected nerve. Our team explains the purpose, expected steps, and other care options before treatment.

Know when another service fits

This service is not general primary care, urgent care, or workers' compensation care. Severe new symptoms or a medical emergency require appropriate urgent medical attention.

The staff (Tracy) and the medical folks are very nice. They explain everything to you in plain language before you even get started, and once you see doctor (Dr Scott), the assistant (Areyana) is gentle & sweet. They both will walk you through the entire process verbally, as they go and they make sure you are good before you leave as well. Above & beyond when it comes to bedside manner. Just make sure you don't get lost in the Kroger parking lot, listening to GPS. The clinic is inside Arrowhead across the street, behind Subway.

Questions About Occipital Nerve Pain Care

How is occipital neuralgia diagnosed?

A neurological exam checks the pain pattern, tender scalp, neck findings, and related nerve signs. Premier Injury Specialists reviews the collision history and medical records with those findings. A diagnostic injection may help assess the suspected nerve source when appropriate. The diagnosis also considers other causes of post-accident head and neck pain.

What type of doctor treats occipital neuralgia after an accident?

Premier Injury Specialists provides this care through board-certified pain management physicians and a certified physician assistant. Our practice focuses on injuries from motor vehicle collisions. The evaluation may cover headaches, neck pain, nerve symptoms, and related spine injuries. We then explain whether targeted pain care fits the documented findings.

Which details should I confirm before a nerve block?

The treatment purpose, injection site, expected steps, and alternatives should be clear before a nerve block. Our team explains why the procedure fits the exam findings and answers your questions first. Bring a list of medicines and prior treatment notes. Tell us about allergies, new symptoms, or concerns about injections.

When should head pain become an urgent concern?

Sudden severe head pain, confusion, fainting, weakness, vision changes, or trouble speaking needs urgent medical attention. Occipital neuralgia care is planned for focused nerve and injury evaluation. Patients in Forest Park with new severe symptoms should seek appropriate urgent care before scheduling a routine pain consultation.

Why might pain continue after an injection?

Pain can continue when the suspected nerve is not the only source of symptoms. Neck injury, irritated joints, discs, or soft-tissue damage may also need review. Our team compares the response with the original pain pattern and updates the plan when the findings point elsewhere. Individual results vary.

What should I bring to my first consultation for Occipital Neuralgia Treatment?

Medical records, imaging reports, medication details, and collision information help us assess the injury. A short symptom note can also describe pain location, triggers, scalp tenderness, and changes since the accident. Customers who have attorney or MedPay information should bring those details so the care record stays organized.
