Medial Branch Blocks in Forest Park for Targeted Injury Care

Medial branch blocks focus on small nerves linked to the facet joints in the neck or back. They may fit patients whose pain pattern points to those joints after a motor vehicle collision.

The procedure is not a general treatment for every back problem. Herniated discs, sciatica, radiculopathy, headaches, and soft-tissue injuries can need different care. We review the injury history, symptoms, and prior records before recommending a path.

This page helps you decide whether a targeted nerve block is worth discussing during an injury evaluation. Our practice serves Forest Park and South Metro Atlanta, with care focused on auto accident injuries rather than primary care or workers’ compensation cases.

  • A symptom history that identifies neck or back pain after a motor vehicle collision.
  • A review of relevant medical records and prior treatment.
  • Discussion of whether facet-related pain fits the planned injection.
  • A written treatment plan and medical documentation for the injury record.

Service Overview

Medial branch blocks are targeted injections that place local anesthetic near small nerves serving the facet joints.

  • Facet joint injections treat the joint area directly, while medial branch blocks test and calm the nerves that carry facet pain.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides this procedure for eligible auto accident patients in Forest Park and the greater Metro Atlanta area.

Process

How Our Team Performs Targeted Nerve Blocks

1

Review the injury and symptoms

We review the accident history, pain pattern, medical records, and prior treatment to assess whether the procedure fits.

2

Explain the planned injection

The physician explains the target area, local anesthetic, possible alternatives, and questions you may have before treatment.

3

Prepare the injection area

We use sterile preparation before positioning you for the procedure.

4

Guide the needle with fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy provides live images while the physician guides the needle toward the planned medial branch nerve.

5

Record findings and next steps

We document the procedure and explain how the findings inform the ongoing injury treatment plan.

What Patients Receive From This Treatment Path

A focused pain assessment

We connect the pain pattern with the anatomy being treated. Medial branch blocks are the wrong fit when symptoms point clearly to another source, such as a herniated disc or nerve-root problem.

Board-certified pain care

Our physicians are board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. That training supports a careful review of injury symptoms before an interventional procedure.

One coordinated medical record

The evaluation, procedure, and follow-up plan stay within one injury-focused practice. Our documentation supports patients and personal injury attorneys throughout treatment.

I had a great experience at premier injury specialist after my car accident. From the moment I walked in, Tracy, the patient coordinator, made sure I understood the process and felt comfortable. Tony, the medical assistant, did an amazing job explaining the procedure in detail, which eased my nerves. Dr. Vyas thoroughly reviewed my MRI and took the time to explain my condition and treatment options. He was very honest and upfront about the procedure, making sure I truly needed the injection before administering it. His transparency and genuine care for my well-being reassured me that this office isn’t just in it for the money — they are truly invested in their patients’ health. I highly recommend this office to anyone in need of pain management. They provide exceptional care with professionalism and integrity.

The staff (Tracy) and the medical folks are very nice. They explain everything to you in plain language before you even get started, and once you see doctor (Dr Scott), the assistant (Areyana) is gentle & sweet. They both will walk you through the entire process verbally, as they go and they make sure you are good before you leave as well. Above & beyond when it comes to bedside manner. Just make sure you don't get lost in the Kroger parking lot, listening to GPS. The clinic is inside Arrowhead across the street, behind Subway.

Questions About Targeted Nerve Blocks After an Auto Accident

How is needle placement checked during a medial branch block?

Needle placement is checked with fluoroscopy before the injection is given. The physician uses live X-ray images to guide the needle toward the planned medial branch nerve. Sterile preparation comes first, and local anesthetic is used as part of the procedure. The team explains the steps and records the findings in your medical record.

What does the first evaluation include before this injection?

The first evaluation includes a review of your accident, symptoms, medical history, and available records. We ask where the pain starts and how it changes with movement. The physician then considers whether facet-related pain fits the findings. Bring relevant records or imaging if you have them, but do not delay urgent care for paperwork.

When might a facet injection fit better than a medial branch block?

A facet injection may fit when the joint itself needs direct treatment. A medial branch block targets the small nerves that carry signals from the facet joints. The physician chooses between them after reviewing the pain pattern and examination. These procedures are not interchangeable for every neck or back injury.

Why might a medial branch block not help my back pain?

A medial branch block may not help when the pain comes from another structure. Herniated discs, nerve-root irritation, sciatica, and soft-tissue injuries can follow different treatment paths. Our physicians review the response and the examination instead of treating every pain pattern the same way. Individual results vary.

Which records should I bring to an injury evaluation?

Relevant medical records help connect the accident, symptoms, and prior care. Bring imaging reports, treatment notes, medication information, and claim details when available. Our team reviews the information during the evaluation and explains what belongs in the treatment record. A missing record does not replace the need for medical care.

What happens if targeted nerve blocks are not the right fit?

The physician discusses another treatment path when the pain pattern does not support a medial branch block. Options may include epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections, occipital nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, or joint injections. The choice depends on the injury findings, and the plan is explained before treatment.

Who provides medial branch blocks for auto accident injuries?

Premier Injury Specialists provides medial branch blocks through its focused pain management practice. Our team includes board-certified physicians in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine, along with a certified physician assistant. We treat auto accident injuries and do not provide general primary care, urgent care, or workers’ compensation care.
