Recurring pain behind the head can involve irritated occipital nerves, neck injury, or another pain source. Seek urgent medical care for sudden severe headache, weakness, confusion, fainting, or vision changes. Routine evaluation can help determine whether targeted treatment fits your condition.

Occipital neuralgia care for collision injuries in Avondale Estates

Occipital neuralgia treatment focuses on pain that travels from the upper neck toward the scalp or behind the eyes. It may fit people with burning, sharp, aching, or shock-like pain after a motor vehicle collision.

The key decision is whether the pain comes from the occipital nerves, the neck joints, a disc, muscle tissue, or another condition. Our team examines the full injury picture, because one pain label doesn't explain every headache after a crash.

Care stays within our auto accident focus. We don't provide general primary care, urgent care, or workers' compensation care. Patients who need immediate emergency attention should use emergency medical services.

  • Describe where the pain starts and where it travels.
  • Bring records or imaging from the collision when available.
  • Tell the physician about headaches, neck pain, scalp sensitivity, and numbness.
  • Ask which treatment option matches the suspected pain source.
  • Request a written treatment plan and medical documentation.

What this care can change for the patient

A focused exam helps separate nerve pain from neck, disc, or muscle pain.

Targeted procedures may help manage pain when medication alone isn't enough.

Coordinated records support communication with your personal injury attorney.

Follow-up findings help the physician adjust care when symptoms change.

How we approach occipital nerve pain

A focused pain assessment

The first visit connects your pain pattern with the collision history and physical findings. Occipital neuralgia treatment is the wrong fit when symptoms suggest a separate urgent condition that needs emergency care.

Physician-LED procedure planning

Board-certified pain management physicians review whether a targeted procedure fits your condition. They explain the purpose, possible risks, and other care options before treatment.

Documentation that follows the care

Our coordinated practice records examinations, procedures, and treatment decisions. That record helps patients and personal injury attorneys understand the medical course.

Process

How occipital neuralgia treatment is done

1

Review the collision and symptoms

The physician reviews the crash history, pain location, headache pattern, prior care, and relevant medical records.

2

Examine the head and neck

The examination checks scalp sensitivity, neck movement, strength, sensation, and signs that point toward another pain source.

3

Match care to the findings

The physician explains whether medication, physical therapy, an occipital nerve block, or another procedure fits the findings.

4

Explain the selected procedure

The care plan covers the purpose, expected medical role, possible risks, and questions you have about the selected treatment.

5

Record treatment and follow-up

Our team documents the visit, treatment decisions, and follow-up needs in the medical record.

Comparing treatment options for occipital nerve pain

These options address different parts of a pain plan, so the examination guides the choice.

Treatment optionPrimary roleWhen it may be discussed
Occipital nerve blockTargets suspected occipital nerve painWhen the pain pattern and exam support nerve involvement
Physical therapyWorks on neck movement, strength, and functionWhen muscle or movement problems contribute to symptoms

Radiofrequency ablationAffects selected pain-carrying nerves with controlled heatWhen prior findings and the treatment plan support it

The staff (Tracy) and the medical folks are very nice. They explain everything to you in plain language before you even get started, and once you see doctor (Dr Scott), the assistant (Areyana) is gentle & sweet. They both will walk you through the entire process verbally, as they go and they make sure you are good before you leave as well. Above & beyond when it comes to bedside manner. Just make sure you don't get lost in the Kroger parking lot, listening to GPS. The clinic is inside Arrowhead across the street, behind Subway.

I had a great experience at premier injury specialist after my car accident. From the moment I walked in, Tracy, the patient coordinator, made sure I understood the process and felt comfortable. Tony, the medical assistant, did an amazing job explaining the procedure in detail, which eased my nerves. Dr. Vyas thoroughly reviewed my MRI and took the time to explain my condition and treatment options. He was very honest and upfront about the procedure, making sure I truly needed the injection before administering it. His transparency and genuine care for my well-being reassured me that this office isn’t just in it for the money — they are truly invested in their patients’ health. I highly recommend this office to anyone in need of pain management. They provide exceptional care with professionalism and integrity.

Questions about occipital nerve pain care

For Occipital Neuralgia Treatment, what treatments can relieve pain from occipital neuralgia?

Nerve blocks can help assess and manage pain linked to irritated occipital nerves. Premier Injury Specialists may also discuss medication, physical therapy, or radiofrequency ablation when the findings support those options. Treatment depends on the suspected pain source and your injury history. Results vary, and every procedure includes a discussion of risks and alternatives.

How does a physician decide whether a nerve block fits?

A nerve block fits when the pain pattern and examination suggest occipital nerve involvement. The physician reviews where pain starts, how it travels, scalp sensitivity, neck motion, and related symptoms. Imaging or prior records may add useful context. The consultation ends with an explanation of the recommended plan and other reasonable care choices.

When scheduling Occipital Neuralgia Treatment, which records should I bring to the first visit?

Medical records, imaging reports, medication lists, and collision details help the physician review your injury. Bring available emergency department notes, prior treatment records, and information about symptoms since the crash. Our team also asks about care from other providers. These details support a more complete treatment plan and medical record.

When should head pain after a collision receive urgent care?

Sudden severe headache, confusion, fainting, weakness, seizures, or new vision changes require urgent medical attention. Emergency care takes priority when these warning signs appear. Routine pain evaluation is appropriate for ongoing symptoms without those signs. Our practice focuses on collision-related pain care, not emergency or general urgent care.

Why might medication fail to control this pain?

Medication may not control pain when irritated nerves, neck joints, discs, or muscle injury remain involved. Our physicians review the medicine used, relief pattern, side effects, and examination findings. That review helps identify whether physical therapy, a targeted procedure, or another treatment deserves discussion. Do not change prescribed medication without medical guidance.

Can auto accident billing cover this type of care?

Auto accident care may be billed through MedPay or an attorney lien when those arrangements apply. The billing path depends on your case and the services recommended. Our team discusses the available arrangement during the consultation. A personal injury attorney can also help explain case-related billing questions while medical care continues.
