Why does facet joint pain keep happening after an auto accident?

Medial Branch Blocks for Facet Joint Pain in Avondale Estates

Medial branch blocks help answer a focused question: do the nerves beside the spine carry pain from the facet joints? We provide this assessment for people with neck or back pain after motor vehicle collisions.

Patients often want to know whether spinal arthritis, joint strain, or another injury drives their symptoms. Our physicians review the pattern of pain and the physical exam before discussing a targeted injection. The result does not prove every source of pain, so the clinical record and follow-up discussion still matter.

This page serves patients seeking a focused diagnostic step, not general primary care or urgent care. Care may include other procedures, such as facet joint injections or radiofrequency ablation, when the patient’s condition supports them.

  • Review whether your pain pattern fits a possible facet joint source.
  • Discuss prior injury records, exam findings, and relevant imaging.
  • Ask how diagnostic relief could guide the next treatment decision.
  • Confirm how the procedure will be documented in your injury record.

Service Overview

Medial branch blocks are targeted injections that test pain signals from small nerves near spinal facet joints.

  • They help with diagnosis, while radiofrequency ablation treats selected nerve pathways after the diagnosis supports that option.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides this service for auto accident injuries in Avondale Estates and the greater Metro Atlanta area.

When this service is the right fit

A person in Avondale Estates has ongoing back pain after a collision, but the source is not clear from symptoms alone. Our physicians review the injury history and exam before discussing whether a medial branch block could test the suspected spinal pain pathway.

How we approach this diagnostic decision

Focused nerve pathway review

Customers receive a targeted review of the nerves linked to the suspected pain source. This service is the wrong fit when symptoms point to an unrelated condition that needs a different evaluation.

Coordinated injury documentation

Our team connects the exam, procedure findings, and treatment plan in one medical record. That helps keep the care history clear after a motor vehicle collision.

Pain medicine credentials

Board-certified pain management physicians lead care, supported by a certified physician assistant and personalized, evidence-based treatment plans.

Process

How we plan and provide the diagnostic block

1

Review the injury history

We discuss the collision, pain location, movement limits, prior care, and available medical records.

2

Match symptoms to spinal structures

Our physicians compare the pain pattern and physical exam with possible facet joint and nerve pathway involvement.

3

Discuss the injection plan

We explain the targeted block, its diagnostic purpose, and the questions it can help answer.

4

Record the clinical findings

We document the assessment and use the findings to guide discussion of follow-up care.

I had a great experience at premier injury specialist after my car accident. From the moment I walked in, Tracy, the patient coordinator, made sure I understood the process and felt comfortable. Tony, the medical assistant, did an amazing job explaining the procedure in detail, which eased my nerves. Dr. Vyas thoroughly reviewed my MRI and took the time to explain my condition and treatment options. He was very honest and upfront about the procedure, making sure I truly needed the injection before administering it. His transparency and genuine care for my well-being reassured me that this office isn’t just in it for the money — they are truly invested in their patients’ health. I highly recommend this office to anyone in need of pain management. They provide exceptional care with professionalism and integrity.

The staff (Tracy) and the medical folks are very nice. They explain everything to you in plain language before you even get started, and once you see doctor (Dr Scott), the assistant (Areyana) is gentle & sweet. They both will walk you through the entire process verbally, as they go and they make sure you are good before you leave as well. Above & beyond when it comes to bedside manner. Just make sure you don't get lost in the Kroger parking lot, listening to GPS. The clinic is inside Arrowhead across the street, behind Subway.

Questions patients ask about medial branch blocks

To set clear expectations, what are medial branch blocks used to diagnose during the scheduling phase?

Facet joint pain is what medial branch blocks help test when spinal pain may come from small nerves near those joints. The injection can show whether those nerves contribute to symptoms, but it does not explain every possible pain source. Our physicians combine the result with your history and examination before discussing follow-up care.

How does a pain management physician decide if this fits?

The symptom pattern and physical examination help determine whether a medial branch block fits. We review where the pain starts, which movements worsen it, and whether the findings suggest facet joints or another structure. Patients with signs of a different condition may need another evaluation or procedure.

Which records should I bring to the first consultation for Medial Branch Blocks?

Medical records, imaging reports, and details about prior treatment help our physicians assess the injury. Bring accident-related documents you have, along with a list of medicines and the dates of earlier care. These records help connect your symptoms with the proposed diagnostic plan.

When could radiofrequency ablation enter the discussion?

Radiofrequency ablation may enter the discussion when diagnostic findings support pain from selected medial branch nerves. Our physicians first review the clinical picture and the block findings. The procedure is not the automatic next step, and the plan must fit the patient’s condition.

Why might spinal arthritis matter after an accident?

Spinal arthritis can affect facet joints and may add to pain after an accident. Our team still examines the injury pattern because arthritis does not prove it caused the current symptoms. A focused block may help assess whether those joint-related nerves contribute to the pain.

Does the practice work with MedPay or an attorney lien for Medial Branch Blocks?

Care may be billed through MedPay or an attorney lien for eligible auto accident cases. Billing depends on the patient’s situation and the available coverage arrangement. Our practice works with personal injury attorneys to support thorough medical documentation throughout treatment.
