Medial Branch Blocks for crash-related pain in Smyrna

Medial branch blocks are used when neck or back pain may come from the facet joints. These small joints guide spinal movement, while nearby medial branch nerves carry pain signals from them.

The key decision is fit. A pain management physician reviews your crash history, pain pattern, physical exam, and any available records. Imaging may be considered when it helps explain the condition, but imaging alone does not decide whether this procedure suits you.

This page focuses on movement pain after a motor vehicle collision. The service may not fit pain caused mainly by a disc, spinal cord problem, or another condition that needs different care. Our team explains that limit before treatment.

  • Review whether neck or back pain matches a facet-related pattern.
  • Discuss pain during standing, sitting, turning, or other movement.
  • Consider imaging referrals when the clinical picture calls for them.
  • Confirm how the procedure fits the wider injury care plan.
  • Ask how medical records support a personal injury claim or MedPay coverage.

Service Overview

Medial branch blocks are targeted injections that test and treat pain signals from small nerves near spinal facet joints.

  • A medial branch block differs from an epidural steroid injection because it focuses on facet-related pain, not nerve-root irritation from a disc.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides this care for crash-related injuries in Smyrna through its Metro Atlanta practice.

What this treatment may change for daily movement

A targeted block may help clarify whether facet joints contribute to your pain.

Reduced pain may make standing, sitting, or turning easier for some patients.

The response can give your care team useful information for future treatment decisions.

A focused evaluation keeps care tied to the injury pattern, not just a pain score.

Patients receive clear explanations before deciding whether this procedure fits.

Process

How we plan medial branch block care

1

Review the crash and pain pattern

We discuss the collision, pain location, movement triggers, headaches, numbness, and any arm or leg symptoms.

2

Complete the clinical examination

The examination checks spinal movement, tenderness, strength, sensation, and signs that point toward another pain source.

3

Consider records and imaging

We review available medical records and consider an imaging referral when the clinical picture calls for more information.

4

Explain the treatment choice

Our clinician explains how a medial branch block fits the findings, what it is meant to assess, and which questions you should ask before agreeing.

5

Document the care plan

We record the evaluation, treatment discussion, and follow-up needs for coordinated injury care and claim documentation.

How our team approaches this pain decision

Match the procedure to the pain source

Your symptoms and examination guide the decision. This service is the wrong fit when another condition better explains the pain, so we discuss other care paths.

Connect treatment with injury records

Our team links examination findings, treatment details, and follow-up notes to support medical documentation for a personal injury claim or MedPay coverage.

Use coordinated injury care

Board-certified pain management physicians work with the wider care plan when imaging, referrals, or another interventional procedure may be needed.

How targeted spine procedures differ

These procedures address different suspected pain sources, so the clinical finding matters before treatment is chosen.

The staff (Tracy) and the medical folks are very nice. They explain everything to you in plain language before you even get started, and once you see doctor (Dr Scott), the assistant (Areyana) is gentle & sweet. They both will walk you through the entire process verbally, as they go and they make sure you are good before you leave as well. Above & beyond when it comes to bedside manner. Just make sure you don't get lost in the Kroger parking lot, listening to GPS. The clinic is inside Arrowhead across the street, behind Subway.

My injection wasn't as bad as I thought. It was over quick and I was able to move and lift my legs in a way that I haven't in a while. This decision was well worth it. Office was clean and EVERYONE was absolutely amazing. 10 stars

Questions about medial branch block care

For Medial Branch Blocks, what symptoms may improve after a medial branch block?

Movement pain may improve when facet-related joints contribute to neck or back symptoms. Some patients notice easier standing, sitting, or turning, but individual results vary. Our clinicians compare your response with the examination and injury history. That review helps decide whether another procedure, continued care, or a different evaluation fits your needs.

Which pain patterns make this procedure worth discussing?

Facet-related neck or back pain makes this procedure worth discussing. The pattern may include pain with spinal movement, standing, sitting, or extension. A physical examination helps separate facet symptoms from disc pain, nerve-root irritation, or muscle injury. Our team explains the fit after reviewing your medical history and crash-related symptoms.

How should I prepare before a medial branch block consultation?

Medical records, imaging reports, medication details, and a short symptom history help prepare you for the consultation.

  • Bring records from the collision and prior treatment.
  • Note what movements increase your pain.
  • List current medicines and known allergies.

These details help our team discuss the safest and most suitable care plan.

Why might a block be the wrong treatment for my pain?

A block may be the wrong treatment when a disc, spinal cord issue, muscle injury, or nerve-root problem better explains your symptoms. The clinical examination helps identify warning signs and other pain sources. We discuss imaging referrals or different treatment options when the findings do not match facet-related pain.

What changes the cost of this treatment plan for Medial Branch Blocks?

The recommended procedure, clinical evaluation, related care, and documentation needs can change the cost. We explain the care plan before treatment and offer Free Consultations. Attorney liens and MedPay arrangements are accepted. Ask our staff which arrangement applies to your personal injury claim and what paperwork they need.

When should neck or back pain be checked urgently?

New weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, severe numbness, or rapidly worsening pain needs urgent medical evaluation. A medial branch block is not a substitute for emergency care. Patients with these symptoms should seek urgent medical help first, then tell our team about the evaluation when arranging injury care.

Who provides medial branch blocks for crash injuries?

Premier Injury Specialists provides medial branch blocks through pain management physicians who treat motor vehicle collision injuries. Our board-certified providers evaluate the injury pattern before discussing interventional care. The practice also coordinates imaging referrals, pain treatment, and medical documentation when those services fit the patient's needs.
