Why does back pain return after a medial branch block in Mableton, Georgia?

Back pain can return because a medial branch block tests pain signaling without treating every possible source. A returning symptom does not prove that the block failed. The pain pattern, level of relief, timing, examination, and imaging records help our pain management physician decide whether another diagnostic step or a different treatment fits. Sudden weakness, loss of bladder control, or severe new symptoms need urgent medical attention.

Medial Branch Blocks in Mableton, Georgia for Treatment Planning

Medial branch blocks can help our team assess facet-related pain after a crash. They may fit patients with ongoing neck or back pain, pain with movement, or symptoms that remain after the first phase of care.

The key buyer decision is what the block response means for future treatment. Pain reduction can support a facet joint source, but the amount and pattern of change still need clinical review. A partial response can point to more than one pain source, so we consider the full examination and available records.

This page focuses on the decision after the block, not only the injection itself. Our team can discuss whether treatment planning should consider repeat diagnostic work, other pain management options, or radiofrequency ablation.

  • The pain pattern is reviewed before a block is considered.
  • The response is recorded and compared with the original symptoms.
  • Facet-related pain is considered alongside disc, nerve, and soft-tissue causes.
  • Future treatment is discussed after the clinical record is reviewed.

Service Overview

Medial branch blocks are diagnostic injections that test whether small nerves near spinal facet joints carry part of the pain signal.

  • A medial branch block differs from an epidural steroid injection because it targets nerves linked to facet joints, not the epidural space around spinal nerves.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides medial branch blocks for patients in Mableton through its Metro Atlanta injury practice.

What Patients Learn From the Block Response

A clear response can help narrow the suspected source of facet-related pain.

The record gives our pain management physician more information for the next treatment discussion.

A limited response can prompt review of other causes, such as disc or nerve pain.

The care plan stays tied to the patient’s symptoms and examination.

Written medical documentation can support the treatment history after a motor vehicle collision.

Process

Steps From Evaluation to Treatment Planning

1

Review the crash-related symptoms

Our team reviews pain location, movement triggers, prior treatment, examination findings, and available medical records.

2

Select the suspected pain source

The clinical plan identifies whether facet-related pain is a reasonable source to test with a medial branch block.

3

Record the patient response

The patient’s pain change and movement response are documented after the diagnostic block.

4

Discuss the next treatment

The response is considered with the rest of the record before our team discusses repeat testing, other pain care, or radiofrequency ablation.

What This Treatment Decision Requires

Response must match the pain pattern

The block response is useful when it matches the pain being tested. We compare symptom change with the examination and records. A block is the wrong fit when another condition better explains the symptoms.

Records shape the next discussion

Prior evaluations, imaging referrals, and treatment notes help our team understand the full injury picture. This keeps the next step tied to the patient’s documented needs.

Crash care stays coordinated

Board-certified pain management physicians coordinate injury care around neck pain, back pain, sciatica, radiculopathy, and related crash injuries.

I had a great experience at premier injury specialist after my car accident. From the moment I walked in, Tracy, the patient coordinator, made sure I understood the process and felt comfortable. Tony, the medical assistant, did an amazing job explaining the procedure in detail, which eased my nerves. Dr. Vyas thoroughly reviewed my MRI and took the time to explain my condition and treatment options. He was very honest and upfront about the procedure, making sure I truly needed the injection before administering it. His transparency and genuine care for my well-being reassured me that this office isn’t just in it for the money — they are truly invested in their patients’ health. I highly recommend this office to anyone in need of pain management. They provide exceptional care with professionalism and integrity.

The staff (Tracy) and the medical folks are very nice. They explain everything to you in plain language before you even get started, and once you see doctor (Dr Scott), the assistant (Areyana) is gentle & sweet. They both will walk you through the entire process verbally, as they go and they make sure you are good before you leave as well. Above & beyond when it comes to bedside manner. Just make sure you don't get lost in the Kroger parking lot, listening to GPS. The clinic is inside Arrowhead across the street, behind Subway.

Questions About Block Results and Future Care

What do block results mean for future treatment?

Radiofrequency ablation may enter the discussion when the block response supports facet-related pain. The response is not a guarantee of future relief. Our pain management physician reviews the amount of pain reduction, the symptoms tested, the examination, and other records. A limited response can point toward another pain source or a different treatment plan.

How does a physician decide whether the block fit my pain?

The pain pattern and examination help decide whether a medial branch block fits the suspected source. Our team reviews where the pain starts, what movements worsen it, and whether the symptoms match facet-related pain. Disc pain, nerve pain, and soft-tissue injury can require a different evaluation. The block is not a general test for every type of back pain.

Which records should I bring to the consultation for Medial Branch Blocks?

Medical records, imaging reports, medication details, and prior treatment notes help our team review the injury. Bring documents from earlier evaluations when available. We also ask about the crash, symptom changes, and care already received. These details help connect the block question with the wider medical record.

When should returning pain prompt another discussion?

Returning pain should prompt a follow-up discussion when it limits movement, sleep, work, or daily tasks. Our team reviews whether the same pain returned, changed location, or appeared with new symptoms. Sudden weakness, severe numbness, or loss of bladder control needs urgent medical attention. Do not delay care for those warning signs.

Why might a repeat block be considered?

A repeat block may be considered when the first response gives useful but incomplete information about the suspected facet pain. The decision depends on the symptoms tested, the recorded change, and the examination. Our team does not treat a repeat block as automatic. We discuss its purpose before adding it to the plan.

Does this practice treat injuries from motor vehicle collisions?

Premier Injury Specialists treats injuries caused by motor vehicle collisions, including neck pain, back pain, sciatica, radiculopathy, and soft-tissue injuries. The practice also evaluates herniated discs, headaches, and traumatic brain injuries. General primary care, urgent care, and workers’ compensation care are outside this practice’s stated scope.
