Why does nerve pain keep happening after a car accident?

Nerve pain can continue when an injury affects a nerve root, disc, or nearby tissue. A pain management physician reviews numbness, tingling, burning, weakness, and the pattern of pain. Persistent symptoms deserve medical assessment, especially after a crash or surgery. Seek urgent medical care for sudden weakness, loss of bladder control, or loss of bowel control.

Spinal Cord Stimulation for Persistent Pain in Morrow

This page focuses on the decision to assess spinal cord stimulation after a motor vehicle collision. It is for people whose pain continues despite prior care, including patients with nerve pain, failed surgery, or a repeatable pain pattern.

The key question is fit. Our team looks at the type of pain, the body area involved, past procedures, and the records that explain the injury. Spinal cord stimulation isn't the right choice for every condition, so we explain other pain management options when they better match the findings.

Patients in Morrow can receive care through our Stockbridge and Buckhead locations. Our practice treats crash-related injuries only, so this service isn't general primary care, urgent care, or workers' compensation care.

  • Persistent burning, tingling, electric, or shooting pain needs a focused nerve review.
  • Prior surgery and prior injections help shape the treatment discussion.
  • Pain location and pattern should match the condition being assessed.
  • Medical records support treatment planning and personal injury documentation.
  • Sudden weakness or loss of bladder or bowel control needs urgent medical attention.

Service Overview

Spinal Cord Stimulation is a pain treatment that uses electrical signals to change how the nervous system processes pain.

  • It differs from injections because it focuses on nerve signaling, while injections place medicine near an irritated nerve or joint.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides this evaluation for patients in Morrow through its Metro Atlanta injury practice.

How We Approach Spinal Cord Stimulation Decisions

Match the treatment to the pain pattern

Pain location, sensation, and spread help guide the review. Spinal cord stimulation may be the wrong job when symptoms do not point to a condition that this treatment addresses.

Review prior surgery and care

Failed surgery does not answer the treatment question by itself. We consider what was done, what symptoms remain, and whether the records support another path.

Keep the records connected

Our board-certified pain management physicians connect examination findings, imaging referrals, procedures, and claim documentation so the care record stays clear.

The scope this service is meant to handle

A person in Morrow may seek this evaluation after a crash when burning leg pain continues despite earlier treatment. We review the pain pattern and available records, then explain whether spinal cord stimulation belongs among the next options.

Process

How We Assess Spinal Cord Stimulation Fit

1

Review the injury history

We discuss the crash, symptoms, prior surgery, injections, and other care that has already been tried.

2

Map the pain pattern

We assess where pain starts, where it travels, and whether numbness, tingling, or weakness follows a nerve-related pattern.

3

Check available records

We review medical records and imaging reports, then decide whether an imaging referral or added diagnostic work is appropriate.

4

Discuss treatment fit

We explain whether spinal cord stimulation belongs in the care plan and describe other pain management options when it does not.

5

Document the care plan

We record findings, recommendations, and treatment details for ongoing care and personal injury or MedPay documentation.

Questions About This Pain Treatment

Who may benefit from spinal cord stimulation for persistent pain?

Trial stimulation may benefit patients with persistent nerve pain after a crash or failed surgery. Premier Injury Specialists reviews pain patterns, prior care, and medical records before discussing fit. Burning, electric, or shooting pain may support a nerve-focused review. Individual results vary, and this treatment isn't suitable for every pain condition.

How does nerve pain differ from muscle pain after a collision?

Nerve pain often feels burning, electric, shooting, or tingling, while muscle pain is often sore or tender with movement. Symptoms can overlap, so our team checks location, spread, strength, sensation, and prior findings. That review helps guide injections, referrals, or other pain management options.

What records should I bring to a spinal cord stimulation consultation?

Medical records, imaging reports, surgery notes, and prior procedure details help us assess treatment fit. Bring medication information and claim details when available.

  • Imaging reports and discs
  • Operative or discharge notes
  • Records from injections or nerve blocks

These documents help connect symptoms with the documented injury.

Which pain patterns may lead to a treatment discussion?

Pain that follows a nerve path may lead to a treatment discussion. Burning, electric, shooting, or tingling symptoms deserve focused review, especially after failed surgery. We also consider weakness, numbness, symptom spread, and daily limits. A consultation explains whether the pattern supports this approach or another form of pain care.

When should someone seek urgent care for nerve symptoms?

Sudden weakness, loss of bladder control, or loss of bowel control needs urgent medical care. Severe new numbness or rapidly worsening symptoms also require prompt assessment. Routine consultation is appropriate for persistent pain without those warning signs. Patients in Morrow can discuss ongoing crash-related symptoms with our injury-focused practice.

Why might spinal cord stimulation not fit every injury?

Spinal cord stimulation may not fit pain that lacks a nerve-related pattern or needs another diagnosis first. We review the examination, records, prior surgery, and imaging information before making a treatment recommendation. Other options may include injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, or a referral for further evaluation.

What does a pain management physician do for crash injuries?

A pain management physician evaluates injury-related pain and builds care around the documented findings. Premier Injury Specialists assesses conditions such as radiculopathy, herniated discs, whiplash, and soft-tissue injuries. Care may include imaging referrals, interventional procedures, treatment planning, and medical documentation for personal injury claims or MedPay.
